Harry Alston Killed in Accident
Harry Alston The reunion committee has some sad news to share. One of our classmates, Harry Alston (twin of Larry) was killed Tuesday, Jan. 24th, 2006 when he was riding his bike home from visiting his mom in Durham. He was hit by the Boston College basketball team charter bus that was bringing the team in for practice before the game with UNC the following night. If you would like to post your memories or any photos of Harry on the website, please email me. -- Dawn

Comments from classmates:

I was very saddened to hear about the death of Harry Alston. I remember playing basketball with the "Alston Twins" in Junior High; and admiring Harry, not only for his talent on the court, but also for his keen sense of humor off the court. Harry was a very likeable person, who was light-hearted, warm and enjoyable to be around. My thoughts, prayers and heart go out to the Alston family as they deal with this loss. Harry will be missed.
Sincerely, - Chris McIver

I never knew Harry (or Larry) that well - I never could even tell them apart - but that is exactly my point. Everyone knew Harry and Larry to some extent, even if not very personally. You had to live under a rock to not know them. Even to the distant observer, they were great guys - always happy, uncommonly kind (especially for High School), synonymous with basketball, and fun to be around. While the names of many of my classmates have become fuzzy over the last 20 years, Harry and Larry Alston always will carry instant recognition. Though it does not seem that I knew him well enough to do so, I am shocked and saddened by Harry's loss, he will be missed from a distance, and my thoughts are with Larry and the rest of Harry's family. He truly will be missed by all who knew him.
